The use of plants in any facility depends on
the purpose of the facility and the contribution
plant make to that purpose.
There are many ways plants affect the human condition
ranging from food and shelter to medicines. Within
the indoor environment, however, their major influences
are:
The ability to establish a feeling of welcome
and value
The ability to fix and process airborne toxins
The ability to provide focal direction
The ability to stimulate interest and involvement
The ability to enhance, soften, accentuate
or otherwise complement an interior space.
|
To some extent all these elements will mostly
be present wherever plants are introduced into
an interior space but, depending on the primary
purpose for which they have been selected, one
or more influences will predominate.
We have divided the principal facility functions
into retail, office, property and hospitality.
Many facilities will combine two or more functions,
some will involve all four and there will be others
unique to themselves but the classification will
assist in identifying the primary potential value
of plants in most facilities.
Whatever your facility remember plants are a
living commodity. The level of presentation will
ultimately depend on the level of competence in
their continuing care. Being contingent in nature
it is not subject to an empirical measure and
its control can lead to a blow-out in the cost
of managing any arrangement so KNOW YOUR SUPPLIER.
